But the lake is drying up now and actually vanished during the time of the drought of 1984. The fishermen and the farmers are actually finding it a problem, as the lake is slowly drying up and are taking necessary actions for it. One can go around the lake on boats and see a lot of birds and also some lovely islands in the distance.
Then you have the Tibesti Mountains to see and these are however not within limits yet, are a pleasure to watch. Then you can see the Ennedi desert which is a unique region and has a lot of things for the tourists. So get to see the most fascinating prehistorical cave paintings and the most magnificent desert lakes and also the enchantingsand dunes which are a major feature of the entire region. Then you also have the sights of the Nile Crocodile and the presence of the Sahara lion here enhances the tours here.
Also you can go to Abeche, which is a capital of the Ouadai Sultanate. This is surrounded by a desert land that is totally filled with oriental charm and also some lovely and fascinating cobbled streets across the region. There are also some well constructed interesting mosques here.
Chad is famous for activities like camel racing. Come and experience the best of camel racing in the world and see the lovely sights of the Tibesti mountains here. Also get closer to the Toubou tribe who are a fierce lot and are supposed to be related to the Western Sahara Tuaregs. With the best crags and chasms across the world, this is a place that is normally closed to travelers. So watch this region from a distance and enjoy the sights of the Emi KOussi Peak which is situated at a height of around 11,200 feet.
N’Djamena is the capital of Chad and is a great pre war reputation zone. This is actually one of the most vibrant Central African cities. There are many bullet holes here in the buildings here indicating the rife that the city has gone through.
Visit the National Museum and come back totally enchanted with the beautiful Sarah Art Culture belonging to the 9th century. The town has two sections one is the Arab section and the other is the region where the southerners live. The Arab section is very serene at night and the southerners here are very lively and active.
